Quality Engineer

Port Elizabeth

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

National Diploma (Engineering) or equivalent, with four to six years of experience of which two to three years working with complex activities in the quality engineering field.

 

Specialized Requirements:

Metrology experience essential (i.e. be able to operate and accurately measure using 3D Machine.

Must have good IT knowledge and understanding and be able to conduct tasks such as programming and fault finding diagnostics.

Have a good understanding of MSA and Gauge R&R studies.

Strong understanding of typical fixtures/equipment design, relating to the requirements of quality standards and tolerance for such equipment is beneficial.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems, involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Computer Skills:

Competency in MS Office and MS Windows required. Code writing would be a distinct advantage.

  • Ensuring compliance with applicable industry quality standards (e.g. ISO/TS 16949)

  • Assists in the development of procedures to support and implement quality systems applicable to a single site

  • Leads / facilitates Advance Quality Planning teams (e.g. APQP)

  • 6 Sigma Green Belt (Utilizing appropriate statistical methods/techniques)

  • Develops action plans for improving products, services and processes (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, Poka-Yoke)

  • Ensures implementation of continuous improvement action plans

  • Performs verification/validation of implemented improvements

  • Performs benchmarking activities, ensuring integration of best practices throughout the organization (i.e., lessons learned)

  • Enhancing supplier performance to improve the quality of incoming materials, products, and services

  • Ensures that the knowledge necessary to implement quality systems is integrated throughout the organization

  • Resolves customer and supplier issues

  • Ensures compliance to quality systems

  • Delivers training/education in the use of quality standards, tools, systems and techniques

  • Applies appropriate statistical tools to analyze complex quality issues/problems

  • Supports GSCM in developing supplier audit processes and establishing supplier product capability requirements (e.g. PPM levels)

  • Trains other functional areas on quality policies/procedures

  • Measures the effectiveness of established quality systems (e.g. COPQ, BOS, SPC, audits, performance results in customer portal - as measured by the customer)

  • Performs analyses of existing data (e.g. warranty analysis, COPQ, SPC, test data)

  • Ensures control and capability of processes (e.g. manufacturing, service, business)

  • Ensures that the knowledge necessary to maintain quality standards is applied across the organization

  • Applies appropriate technology to support measurement and control processes

  • Measures supplier / plant performance to ensure the quality of incoming materials, products, and services

  • Develops and manages the quality system audit process (e.g. schedules, worksheets)

  • Defines quality measurements

  • Trains others in advanced statistical techniques to measure and control product, service, and process capability (including train-the-trainer)

  • Trains others in systemic analysis techniques

  • Develops new techniques / approaches to measuring and controlling product, service, and process capability

  • Designs measurement systems and tools to evaluate performance characteristics (e.g., gauges, fixtures, templates, gauging methods)

  • Designs innovative applications for technology tools to measure, control, and report performance characteristics

  • Trains others in the application of quality tools (e.g., 8D, 6 Sigma, Pareto analysis, Painter charts)

  • Manages transition to and +application of defined best methods/ benchmarked processes

  • Applies reliability data to remedy known systemic weaknesses

Temp Process Engineer

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Qualified Toolmaker or 4 Years Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering with minimum 4 years progressive engineering experience in automotive manufacturing.

 

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of SAP; Microsoft Office (Excel, Word & MS Project) Minitab will be an advantage

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

Specific qualifications required per functional area:

 

Chrome Plating:

Qualifications shall include a minimum of 5 years’ experience in plating and surface finishing or a combination of formal chemistry/chemical engineering education and plating experience totaling a minimum of 5 years.

 

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned. 

 

  • Plans production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products.

 

  • Prepares operational process and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meets specifications.

 

  • Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and assists with maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.

 

  • Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.

 

  • Develops or revises standard operational and working practices and observes workers to ensure compliance with standards.

 

  • Cost estimating for new products / drive ongoing cost reduction effort          

 

  • Liaises with suppliers to ensure proper standards are met when ordering equipment

 

  • Development of process flows and PFMEA’s

 

  • Develop improvements to existing production process

Industrial Sales Engineer

Minimum requirements:

· Matric / grade 12

· At least N3 Technical qualification

· Recognized Sales and/or Marketing Qualification

· Minimum of 3 - 5 Years within a solutions selling environment

· Valid driver’s license and reliable car essential

Duties:

Customer

· Visit customers and potential new customers according to a set daily calling cycle and, if applicable, a new business development schedule

· Analyze and provide feedback on buying patterns of customers in geographical area in order to meet target objectives

· Assess and manage all warranty claims, according to set policies & procedures, with the exception of those weeks attended too by service representatives

· Provides ideas to increase sales within the area of responsibility

· In conjunction with Territory Team Leaders and Regional Sales Managers give input to the development of model stock for each customer to decrease rotations

· Build and sustain great customer service levels and business relationships in support of business objectives

· Build and sustain good internal service levels and business relationships with the Central functions in support of business objectives. (Finance, HR, Marketing, Operations etc.)

· Training of customers to ensure customers are kept up to date with technical product changes

· Implementation of new marketing and promotion ideas and assist customers in aligning their strategy with that of the Company marketing strategy

· Monitor monthly sales per customer, understanding reasons for volume gains / declines

· Review scrap recovery by customer on a weekly basis and visit bottom performing customers to ensure the return of scrap is increased and optimized

· Resolve or escalate all customer queries/complaints according to relevant policies and procedures

· Determine the customer requirement regarding POS material per customer

· Make recommendations on product enhancements for improved sales potential

· New business opportunities by identifying potential dealers and distributors and cross selling opportunities

· Canvassing and opening of new customer accounts based on their viability as future customers (includes assistance with the credit application process)

· Update customer database by providing new information regarding new customers and/or updating existing information. Ensure 100% accuracy of all master data per geographical area (also critical for CRM purposes)

· Monthly reporting and meetings with the Industrial Business Development Manager to feedback status of existing and new business

o Implement initiatives in accordance with Automotive Marketing Strategy

o Managing market share for all types and brands of batteries

o Maintain and monitor market share on a monthly basis

o Grow market share to budget requirements ensuring target achievement

o Feedback on sales activity is done on a monthly basis at the SBO meeting at Business Unit Level

· Review all customers in their area relating to performance adherence to KPA's

· Ensure that technical developments in the market are reported to the Industrial Business Development Manager for escalation to the Technical/ Marketing team on an ongoing basis

· Ongoing tracking and reporting on competitor activity in the region

· Conduct regular engagements with Territory Team Leaders and Regional Sales Managers on performance against set targets for:

o Sales Volumes

o Profitability

o Warrantee compliance

o Scrap return rate

o Call cycle performance

o Rotation performance

Financial

· Set up monthly meetings and discuss action plans relating overall debtors as per standard trading terms and conditions in line with targets

· Ensure that operational costs are curbed by reducing unnecessary expenses and adhering to expense policy

· Conduct regular pricing surveys in the region and report findings to the Industrial Business Development Manager so as to maintain & grow market share

· Ensuring that discounts are managed in accordance with set parameters

· To ensure that the relevant sales target is achieved in accordance with budget

Internal Processes

· To ensure compliance to all relevant sales and operations policies and procedures

Human Capital

· Report any incidences of alleged misconduct/non-performance to Senior Management to ensure action is taken as required

· Ensure that all HR administrative issues are processed accordingly
